Leonard Jessup

Dr. Leonard M. (Len) Jessup is Vice President for University Development at Washington State University and President of the WSU Foundation, roles he has held since May of 2005. He leads a transformation of the development operation at WSU in order to achieve significantly higher levels of fundraising and to prepare the university for its next comprehensive campaign. Prior to this post he served since June of 2002 as Dean of the College of Business and Economics at WSU and as the Philip L. Kays Distinguished Professor in Management Information Systems (MIS). As Dean he led a complete, two-year reengineering of the business program, which resulted in the successful AACSB reaccreditation of the College in spring 2004. The College has now embarked on a new strategic plan with a vision to be among the best and most innovative programs in the country. In that role he also helped to lead a University-wide Entrepreneurship and Innovation Initiative, driven by the College of Business and Economics and its top-ranked entrepreneurship program. He also helped to focus the College on innovative approaches to teaching and learning and has guided the development of innovative new facilities such as the Boeing Wireless Classroom of the Future, the Carson Center for Placement and Professional Development, and the James C. Nelson Gallery of Excellence, a computer-based, interactive display of excellence throughout the business program.

President Jessup received his B.A. in Information and Communication Studies in 1983 and his M.B.A. in 1985 from California State University, Chico, where he was voted Outstanding M.B.A. Student. He received his Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior and Management Information Systems from the University of Arizona in 1989. He is a member of the Association for Information Systems and Alpha Iota Delta, was Associate Editor for the Management Information Systems Quarterly, is a past member of the Editorial Board for Small Group Research, and was Conference Co-Chair for the International Conference on Information Systems, hosted by WSU and held in Seattle in 2003.

He has taught in various areas of management and MIS and has published, presented, and consulted on electronic commerce, computer-supported collaborative work, technology-supported teaching and learning, emerging information technologies, entrepreneurship, leadership, and related topics. He has earned numerous awards for teaching excellence and innovation. Jessup came to WSU from Indiana University in June 2000 as Coordinator of the MIS program in the College. While managing the MIS program he helped to implement a Web-based, online version of the undergraduate MIS program and an "MIS Fellows" program that enabled top undergraduate MIS students to work side-by-side with MIS faculty on cutting-edge research projects.

Joseph Valacich

Joseph S. Valacich is The George and Carolyn Hubman Distinguished Professor in MIS and the inaugural Marian E. Smith Presidential Endowed Chair at Washington State University. He was previously an Associate Professor with tenure (early) at Indiana University, Bloomington, and was named the Sanjay Subhedar Faculty Fellow. He has had visiting faculty appointments at the University of Arizona, City University of Hong Kong, Buskerud College (Norway), The Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Riga Technical University (Latvia), and the Helsinki School of Economics and Business. He received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Arizona (MIS), and the M.B.A. and B.S. (computer science) degrees from the University of Montana. His teaching interests include systems analysis and design, collaborative computing, project management, and management of information systems. Professor Valacich served on the national task forces to design IS '97 and 2002: The Model Curriculum and Guidelines for Undergraduate Degree Programs in Information Systems as well as MSIS 2000 and 2006: The Master of Science in Information Systems Model Curriculum. He also served on the Executive Committee, funded by the National Science Foundation, to define the IS Program Accreditation Standards and on the Board of Directors for CSAB (formally, the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board), representing the Association for Information Systems (AIS). He was the general conference co-chair for the 2003 International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in Seattle and was the vice-chair of ICIS 1999 in Charlotte, NC.

Dr. Valacich has conducted numerous corporate training and executive development programs for organizations, including: AT&T, Boeing, Dow Chemical, EDS, Exxon, FedEx, General Motors, Microsoft, and Xerox. He previously served on the editorial boards of MIS Quarterly (two terms) and Information Systems Research, and is currently serving on the boards at Decision Science and Small Group Research. His primary research interests include technology-mediated collaboration, human-computer interaction, mobile and emerging technologies, e-business, and distance education. He is a prolific researcher, with publications in numerous prestigious journals, including: MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Management Science, Academy of Management Journal, Communications of the ACM, Decision Science, Communications of the AIS, Journal of AIS, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management Information System, and many others. He is a co-author of the best-selling Modern Systems Analysis and Design (5th Edition), as well as Essentials of Systems Analysis and Design (3rd Edition), Object-Oriented Systems Analysis and Design (2nd Edition), and Information Systems Project Management (1st Edition); all are published by Prentice Hall.
