Summary

This introductory text guides readers through the essentials of Authorware—a state-of-the-art multimedia authoring tool used to develop games, simulations, presentations, drills, and tutorials. Unlike traditional computer languages that require users to know programming, Authorware allows users to develop multimedia with only a minimal knowledge of computer programming and operation. Adopting a user-friendly, tutorial approach, Hooper leads users step-by-step through the authoring process, integrating frequent checkpoints that assess readers' on-going comprehension. The Second Edition presents the latest version of Authorware—version 4—with a completely new interface that enhances learning.

Takes a multidimensional approach to learning, integrating various resources—including the text, an accompanying CD-ROM, and a dedicated website—to teach, illustrate, and supplement the learning experience.
Builds on the belief that readers will learn to develop multimedia most effectively by developing a project as they learn.

  • Includes a series of projects that provide first-hand experience with the content addressed in each chapter.
  • Develops each new project on the work completed in the previous project, eventually leading to the completion of an interactive multimedia kiosk.
  • Provides all files needed to complete the projects—including graphics, sounds, and text files—on the accompanying CD-ROM.
Provides accompanying CD-ROM that runs on both Macintosh and PC's.
  • Contains The Working Model—a working version of Authorware 4—as well as videos, support files, and project files.
Features a dedicated website—http://www.prenhall.com/Hooper/— that includes four categories of resources: answers to exercises, development tools, teaching updates and discussion of common development problems.
