NCCER’s Contren® Learning Series is comprised of the following: Construction, Maintenance, and Pipeline Curricula • Construction Safety Programs • Construction Management Education • Skills Assessments

The Contren® Learning Series prepares the individual for every step along the construction career path. Every member of the construction workforce, from the entry-level craftsperson to Crew Leader to Project Manager, benefits from Contren®. It is the complete construction education package.

Construction, Maintenance and Pipeline Curricula

Contren® construction, maintenance, and pipeline curricula are available for more than 35 craft areas. What sets Contren® apart from other construction curricula is its development process. Contren® curricula are not written by one author, but by a team of the finest craft professionals in the country. For each craft, NCCER assembles a team of craft professionals referred to as Subject Matter Experts. The Subject Matter Experts meet frequently with an NCCER representative and a professional writer to develop the curriculum. The process of developing a new craft curriculum may take up to two years.

The experience and knowledge of the Subject Matter Experts, combined with NCCER’s aggressive revision schedule, ensures exceptional up-to-date training programs that meet or exceed national industry standards.

Program Structure
Each Contren® craft area is comprised of successive Craft Levels and each Craft Level is comprised of individual units of study called Modules. Craft Levels meet and most often exceed the minimum Apprenticeship Training, Employer and Labor Services (formerly Bureau of Apprenticeship Training) requirements for classroom-related training.

Because Contren® is modular in format, each Module can be treated as a separate task-training unit. Instructors may teach a single Module or the entire Craft Level. Instructors may even customize their own training programs by combining modules across various craft areas. Whatever the training requirements, Contren® can be easily adapted to cost-effectively meet the needs of your program.

Trainee and Instructor Guides
Contren® includes illustrated Trainee Guides and detailed companion Instructor’s Guides. Trainee Guides contain task objectives, task procedures, illustrations, and review questions. Instructor’s Guides feature teaching outlines, lab exercises, module examinations, and
competency-based performance tests.

Note: All curricula revised or published since 1999 have a separate booklet for Module Exams and Answer Keys.

Prices
All prices listed in this catalog reflect net pricing available to schools, government, business and industry accounts. All prices are accurate as of press time but are subject to change without notice.

Computerized Test Scrambling Software
Along with reproducible exam masters, Test Scrambling Software will be offered with all new and recently revised products. A User’s Manual provides easy-to-follow instructions on these software options.

Note: According to NCCER’s Accreditation Guidelines, instructors may not delete questions from exams. Doing so may seriously jeopardize either the Sponsor’s accreditation status or any recognition of trainees, instructors, and trainers through NCCER’s National Registry.

Transparency Masters
NCCER offers reproducible paper copies of the overhead transparencies referred to in the Instructor Guides. The Transparency Masters package is comprised of most Trainee Guide graphics, enlarged for projection, and printed on unbound paper sheets for easy copying onto transparency film.

Note: Transparency Masters are provided on paper, not acetates. Price is based on the total number of pages and varies accordingly.

PowerPoint® Presentation Slides
A powerful addition to your classroom discussion, Microsoft PowerPoint® Presentation Slides are available for all full-color titles. Each CD
features all the illustrations and photos from the Trainee Guide.

Empty Binder
Curricula purchased in Loose-leaf format do not include a binder; however, empty binders may be purchased separately.

Complimentary Product Supplements

The following product supplements are available at no cost:

Performance Test Checklists
The Performance Test Checklists correlate to the performance tasks of NCCER’s Contren® curricula and can be used to provide record keeping for apprenticeship programs, company-in-house training, or any other need for on-the-job training records.

Equipment and Material Lists
The Equipment and Material Lists include all of the equipment and materials required to teach a curriculum.

Competencies/Objectives Lists
The Competencies/Objectives Lists include all competencies and comprehensive objectives for each craft.

Becoming an SME

Developing and maintaining the Contren® Learning Series is an ongoing process resulting in the most up-to-date and thorough training materials available. This process is made possible largely by the input of dedicated teams of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who contribute their time, knowledge, and experience to every project.

“So many people are experts in the field with only on-the-job training,” says HVAC SME Tommy Swafford of Kosciusko, Mississippi-based Encompass Mechanical Services. “These books bring together what they know and show how the subjects makes sense.”

Curtis Casey, with Show Low, Arizona-based Northern Arizona Vocational Institute of Technology, agrees, adding, “While working with other SMEs, it helped me to broaden my perspective of the industry.” He found that the experience “motivated me to introduce my students to the many welding opportunities available to them. Also, I now have many more technical and personal resources through my association with NCCER and the other SMEs. Thanks for the experience!”

Integrating the methods and ideas of nationally recruited SMEs ensures that the curricula truly meet industry standards. To find out how you can become an SME or be a part of the craft training solution, call 1-888-NCCER20 and ask for the Product Development Department, or email curriculum@nccer.org.

Safety

NCCER’s Contren® Safety Learning Series was developed by a team of safety professionals to meet the individual training needs of the craft professional, safety technician, and safety manager.

The Contren® Safety Learning Series consists of three separate titles comprising a suggested education path: Safety Orientation, Field Safety, and Safety Technology.

For more information, contact your Prentice Hall Sales Specialist. For ordering information, refer to page 95 in the catalog.

Skills Assessment

To provide contractors with an effective tool to identify and elevate the skills and productivity of their workforce, NCCER offers the National Craft Assessment and Certification Program (NCACP).

NCACP assessments are based on the competencies outlined in NCCER’s Contren® construction, maintenance, and pipeline curricula. Assessments are designed to evaluate journey-level knowledge and skills of experienced craftspeople. Once the craftsperson completes the NCACP written and performance assessments, he/she receives a training prescription to assist in upgrading any knowledge deficiencies that may have been identified by the assessment.

To learn more about the NCACP or to determine which assessment tests are currently available, contact NCCER Customer Service at 1-888-NCCER20 or visit www.nccer.org.
