Chapter 7. Study Exercises: Answers

Question 1. A designer created an interaction with the following settings for a correct response:

When the question was answered correctly, feedback was erased from the screen before the user had an opportunity to read it.

How could the designer have prevented feedback from being erased too quickly?

Most looping in an interaction is set either to repeat the question (Try Again) or to quit the question and return to the flow line (Exit Interaction). The approach used to erase feedback from the screen usually differs for Try Again and Exit looping. For Try Again, erasing is usually set to After Next Entry. This has the effect of leaving feedback on the screen for the user to view until another entry is made. For Exit looping, erasing is usually set to Upon Exit. This has the effect of erasing feedback as soon as the lesson returns to the flow line. Unless an adjustment is made to the Interaction icon feedback is immediately removed from the screen as the question ends. To prevent information being erased from the screen too quickly, open the Interaction icon and check the Pause before Exiting option

Question 2. How do you display and move the Entry Marker for Text Entry interactions?

First, Run the file until the Text Entry interaction in which you want to move the entry marker is visible on the screen. Next, Pause the interaction. This will immediately reveal a highlighted text-entry field on the screen. With the mouse, click once inside the highlighted text entry area to bring-up six handles on the perimeter of the text entry area. Drag the highlighted area to move the entry marker to its desired location.
