Information Systems: A Management Perspective

internet and hands-on exercises

Use two WCA system snapshots to align the scope of a system with a problem or issue

People typically analyze systems because of an issue or problem. For example, they might be concerned about (a) producing a better product or (b) producing that product more efficiently or (c) producing the product more quickly or (d) producing the product in a way that is more satisfying to the people doing the work.

Select a work system you are familiar with or that you have encountered directly and identify an issue or problem related to that work system. Produce two different versions of a WCA system snapshot, one in which the scope of the system is smaller and one in which the scope of the system is larger (i.e., the business process encompasses a broader range of activities and the product is therefore broader). Compare the two system snapshots, decide which one is more appropriate for the issue or problem you are thinking about, and explain why it is more appropriate.

A starting point for the system snapshot is provided in: WCA system snapshot - basic version (23 KB Word 97 file in self-executing archive).
