Information Systems: A Management Perspective

internet and hands-on exercises

Calculate how much disk space an electronic version of this book would require.

  1. This book contains both pictures and text. Use a spreadsheet to estimate how much disk space an electronic version of this book would require. Consider only the pure text and the pictures, and ignore whatever disk space would be required to store the formatting of the text and chapters. As a starting point you can use a spreadsheet for calculating a picture's file size. You will have to extend this spreadsheet by including separate calculations for the number of bytes devoted to text and the number of bytes devoted to pictures. Make any assumptions you need in order to do the calculations, and be sure the assumptions are shown clearly in your spreadsheet model.

  2. Compare the number of bytes devoted to text versus pictures. Does this have any implications about the nature of text versus pictorial information on the Internet and other computerized systems?
