Four Thomas P. Davenport cases on knowledge management

Thomas P. Davenport has written four interesting cases on knowledge management in different settings. The questions listed below can be applied to any of these cases individually, or can be used to compare the situations that are discussed.

Questions:

  1. Use the WCA framework to create a system snapshot. Is there any reason to believe that the elements of the work system are less clearly defined in knowledge management systems than in more traditional IT applications such as transaction processing?

  2. Identify ways in which aspects of the other types of information systems are relevant to knowledge management in this setting. (See Table 5.7 on p. 180).

  3. Explain how culture affects the knowledge management system.
