- In order to make a child function, click on the following icon from the toolbar and drop it inside the Maintain Student Records.
- Immediately, the Create Function window will pop up. Type in label as SRS1.1 and Short definition as Insert Student Records. (See Figure 4.8).

- Designer/2000 will automatically place the Child function that you have defined directly below the parent function clearly showing the hierarchy. (See Figure 4.9).

- Using steps 7 and 8 create two more child functions or processes under Maintain Student Records with Short Definition as Update Student Records (Label SRS1.2) and Delete Student Records (Label SRS1.3) respectively. (See Figure 4.10 for a view of your updated diagram).

In a similar manner, you can decompose the various functions as many times as you like.
