Spreadsheet Lab Projects

Complete and turn in the following spreadsheet projects as directed by your instructor.

  1. Spreadsheet Tutorials
    1. Create a folder called SS (a subdirectory \SS in Windows 3.1 and MS-DOS) on your work disk.
    2. Run the spreadsheet program and complete any hands-on tutorials that come with it. Look for a Tutorials entry in the Help pull-down menu. Repeat the tutorial(s), if available, until you feel comfortable with the program's features and functionality.

  2. SUMMARY Spreadsheet: Sales Summary by Representative
    1. Start a spreadsheet program and make the SS folder on the work diskette the default folder. Enter the data shown as shown below. 2. SUMMARY Spreadsheet: Sales Summary by Representative a.)

    2. Enter the formulas in the TOTAL column. The formulas total the sales for all products for each sales representative. Enter formulas in the COMMISSION column. The formulas calculate the sales representative's total commissions. The formula for F5 is =C5+D5+E5.
    3. In the TOTALS row, enter formulas that sum sales by product, total sales, and commissions. The formula for C12 is =SUM(C5:C10).
    4. Format the following ranges as currency with no decimal places C5..F5, C12..G12. Format G5..G10 with two decimal places. Format the range C14..E14 as percent. Total sales in F12 is 389,216. Total commissions in G12 is $25,000.55. Save the spreadsheet as SUMMARY in the SS folder on your work diskette. Print the spreadsheet.

  3. SUMMARY Spreadsheet: Sales Summary by Region
    1. Add the label SALES SUMMARY BY REGION in B16 to your Summary worksheet. Enter the labels for the rows and columns for this spreadsheet as shown in below.

    3. Insert formulas in range C18..F20 to display the totals for each Region by product The formula in C18 is =C5+C6. The formula in E18 is =C18+D18+E18.
    4. Format range C18..F20 as currency with no decimal places. Total sales for the West Region is $138,096. Save and print your spreadsheet.

  4. SUMMARY Spreadsheet: Statistical Sales Summary
    1. Add the label STATISTICAL SALES SUMMARY in B22. Enter the labels for the rows and columns for this portion of the spreadsheet as shown below.

    2. Insert formulas in range C24..F27 to display the appropriate amounts .
    3. Format range C24..F27 as currency with no decimal places. Figures in column F are $48,305, $64,86, $78,167, and $29,862. Save and print the spreadsheet.

  5. SUMMARY Spreadsheet: What if Commissions are Changed
    1. Raise the commission percentages by 0.5% to 6%, 7.5%, and 4.5%. How much more is payed out in total commissions.
    2. Save and print your spreadsheet.

  6. SUMMARY Spreadsheet: Creating Graphs
    1. Use the SALES SUMMARY BY REGION section of the SUMMARY spreadsheet to create a stacked bar chart illustrating the month's sales by product within region. Save the graph as REGION and print it.
    2. Use the SALES SUMMARY BY REGION section of the SUMMARY spreadsheet to create a pie graph illustrating the month's sales by region. Save the graph as PIE in the SS folder on your work diskette. Print the spreadsheet.

  7. BUDGET spreadsheet: Budget Status Report
    1. Begin a new spreadsheet and enter the following labels.

      3 Department Annual Budget Spent-to-date Remaining Funds

      5 Accounting      
      6 Marketing

    2. Format range B5..D8 as currency. In range D5..D8, insert a formula into each cell to display Annual Budget less Spent-to-Date for each department respectively.
    3. Insert a value into each cell in the range B5..B8. Insert a value into each cell of the range C5..C8. Observe the amounts that appear in the range D5..D8.
    4. Enter the label TOTAL in cell A10. Format range B10..D10 as currency. Enter a formula into each cell of range B10..D10 to show the totals for each column.
    5. Save the spreadsheet as BUDGET in the SS folder on your work diskette. Print the spreadsheet.

  8. BUDGET spreadsheet: Bar Graph
    1. Use the spreadsheet file from Project 7 to create a clustered bar graph illustrating the Annual Budget, Spent-to-Date and Remaining Funds for each department.
    2. Save and print the spreadsheet and the bar graph.
    3. Revise the amounts in the Annual Budget and Spent-to-Date columns and observe the changes in the related spreadsheet cells and in the chart.

  9. EMPLOYEE Spreadsheet: Spreadsheet Database
    1. Create an EMPLOYEE spreadsheet using the labels and data shown below.

    2. Set up criteria and output ranges so you can manipulate the data using the spreadsheet's database capabilities. Save the spreadsheet as EMPLOYEE to the SS folder on your work diskette.
    3. Display the records of those people in the Marketing Department. Print the criteria and output ranges.
    4. Display the records of those people whose last name is "Rodman" or "Cooke." Print the criteria and output ranges.
    5. Display the records of Bostonians in the Sales Department. Print the criteria and output ranges.
    6. Sort the data base in ascending sequence by ID. Print the database.
    7. Sort the data base alphabetically in ascending sequence by city. Print the database. Terminate your spreadsheet session without saving.
