CHAPTER 5 Input/Output: Computers in Action
Digital Cameras and Oranges
In the orange growing community they call it their "daily beauty contest." To aid in the orange marketing effort and to ensure quality control, orange growers routinely use digital cameras to photograph and document every load of oranges. Of course, a photograph does not replace on-site tasting, but at least it gives buyers one more piece of information and shows distributors what they will be receiving. The images are captured by officials within the U.S. Department of Agriculture and are distributed over the Internet.
