Absolute Value
Press MENU 1 to access the RUN-MAT screen. Absolute value may be accessed from the catalog, number menu, or from the complex menu.
To
access absolute value from the catalog, press CTRL CAT/CAL
(located above the F4 key). Press F1 to access the A listing. Use the thumb
pad up arrow to locate item 7:Abs. Press either 7 or EXE.
Abs is pasted into the MAT screen.
For example, to find the value of |-4.23|, press (-) 4 . 2 3 ) EXE.
To
evaluate |7 - 11|, press F1 to access the A listing. Either press 7
or use the thumb pad up arrow to locate 7:Abs, then press EXE.
Finally, press 7 - 1 1 ) EXE.
Alternatively, you can access the absolute value function through the numbers menu. Press OPTN F5 to select NUM. Press either 1 or EXE to select 1:Abs. Now proceed as above.
Similarly,
you also can access the absolute value function through the complex numbers menu.
Press OPTN F3 to select CPLX. Press either 1 or EXE
to select 1:Abs. Now proceed as above.
Since absolute value is found in the catalog, one also obtains a graph through the RUN-MAT screen. Press F6 until SKTCH appears above the F2 key. Then press F2 to access the sketch menu, press 4 to access the 4:GRAPH submenu, press either 1 or EXE to select 1:Y=. Consequently, Graph Y= is pasted into the home screen. Now enter the absolute value function by accessing the catalog: press CTRL CAT/CAL, press F1 to select the A listing, use the thumb pad arrow key to locate 7:Abs, then press either 7 or EXE. After Abs is pasted into the RUN-MAT screen, enter ( X ) EXE. Finally, from the graph screen, press F2 to access the zoom menu, and then select 7:Square to get the graph appearing below at right.

Press CTRL 0 to toggle off and on the graph menu at the bottom of the screen
