E. Radical Functions
When you enter a radical function, you must put the entire expression within parentheses. You can use radical notation or you can convert the expression to one with a rational exponent. There are two radical keys that you can use. These are demonstrated below.
1. Square Root Functions
Enter the function
by using the square root key and then enter it by using a rational exponent. The square root key is accessed by entering
and then
. This is shown as the function y1 below. To enter the function as a rational function, use the exponent 1/2. Remember to put the parentheses in. The rational version is shown in y2 below.
2. Other Radical Functions
There is built in function
that you can use to enter a function such as
. This function is found by pressing
5. However, before you enter this function, you must enter the root. In this example, the root is 5. You can also enter the function by using a rational exponent as shown in y2 below.
