Chapter 27: At a Glance Human Reproduction The male reproductive tract includes the testes and accessory structures. The female reproductive tract includes ovaries and accessory structures. The menstrual cycle is controlled by complex hormonal interactions. Copulation allows internal fertilization. During pregnancy, the developing embryo grows within the uterus. On Limiting Fertility Permanent contraception can be achieved through sterilization. There are three major approaches to temporary contraception. Additional contraceptive methods are under development. Human Development During the first two months, rapid differentiation and growth occur. The placenta secretes hormones and exchanges materials between mother and embryo. Growth and development continue during the last seven months.
