Addresses the most basic words that account for the majority of student spelling errors.

Uses a programed structure that enables students to work alone and at their own pace, yet it can also form the basis for classroom assignments.

Employs a phonics approach that focuses on additive doubling, ie or ei, final silent e, pronunciation aids, tricky endings, words often confused, plurals, capitals, apostrophes, and basic principles.

Encourages useful spelling rules while ignoring those rules that are riddled with exceptions.

Focuses on word building, training students to spell a long word by adding prefixes, syllables, and suffixes one piece at a time (ex., mis-under-stand-ing).

Calls for each programed word to be written correctly several times in order to ensure complete mastery.

Holds student interest through its humorous, easy-to- understand content.

Features four new chapters entitled Fight Those Demons! that give particular attention to 140 of the nastiest demons.

The two chapters entitled Words with Tricky Endings from the previous edition have been streamlined into a single chapter.

New proofreading exercises have been added.

The Instructor's Manual has been revised to include a number of new pretests, review suggestions, final tests, and answer keys for each chapter. These tests help to reinforce the book's self instruction format.

A revised Diagnostic Test (preliminary) and a Final Test (comprehensive) will enable the instructor to evaluate students' improvement in the course.
