Ballet - A form of concert dance characterized by grace and precision of movement and elaborate formal technique, typically a theatrical presentation utilizing group and solo dancers with orchestral accompaniment, costumes, scenery, and a story line.

Pas de deux - A dance for two persons. The words “pas de deux” in French mean “step for two.”

Modern dance - A form of concert dance relying on emotional use of the body, as opposed to formalized or conventional movement, and stressing human emotion and the human condition.

Toe shoes - A specialized type of shoe used in ballet to assist the female dancer “on point”—that is, dancing on the very point of the toe.
