Perspective - The representation of distance and three-dimensionality on a two-dimensional surface. One-point perspective uses a single vanishing point; two-point perspective uses two vanishing points.

Vanishing point - The point on the horizon line toward which parallel lines appear to converge and at which they seem to vanish.

Horizon line - A real or implied line across the picture plane which, like the horizon in nature, tends to fix the viewer’s vantage point.

Firing - The process of hardening or glazing a ceramic work in an oven called a kiln.

Ceramic - An object made of hardened clay or porcelain.

Kiln - An oven used for firing ceramics.

Armature - A pipe on which a work of sculpture may be built.

Texture - The apparent or real surface of a work of visual art.

Profile - A view of a work from a single direction.

Thumbnail sketch - a small rough sketch of a proposed work of art.

Subtractive - A work of sculpture that has been carved.

Additive - A work of sculpture that has been built up of component pieces.

Gouge - A tool used in carving.

Veins - Chisel marks

Primer - An initial coating used to seal pores in materials.
