Biopassword Software
For chapter 15

Another type of security system is being developed by Net Nanny, the makers of one of the more popular Internet filters. Their Biopassword Software tracks not only what you type for your password, but also how you type it. So, if you press the keys very lightly or for a short time or if you type the characters quickly or with speed variances, the software will know. Once the system is programmed, anyone who obtains your password will also have to know how you type it in. If they type the correct characters, but not in the correct manner, they will not gain access to your computer.

Points to Ponder:

  1. Do you know anyone who has a security system installed on his or her personal computer? If so, how does it work?

  2. Discuss which industries might have the greatest need for computer security systems.

  3. Do you feel that the need for such security systems is warranted, or are people just paranoid about privacy?
