Six Top Reasons Why People Change Careers
By Chere B. Estrin

  1. Has the ability: They can do the job.
  2. Wants to be rescued: They will be saved from their current scenario.
  3. Spots an opportunity: Money, recognition, status, direction are all important for anyone who works.
  4. Takes limited risks: The real goal is something else such as: "I'll try this before deciding about law school."
  5. Believes a fantasy: The fantasy people tell themselves are powerful motivators for change. "I'll be just like the lawyers on "The Practice."
  6. Has hope: Hope springs eternal. It is the most powerful motivator of all.
