  • Visual Basic Web Magazine ( www.vbwm.com ) - Contains numerous articles on VB that provide helpful hints for VB programmers. Includes a section for beginners who are just learning to program in VB.

  • Certification Magazine - An interesting publication devoted exclusively to professional IT certification issues. ( www.certmag.com ).

Web Sites

  • Java (http://java.sun.com ) - Sun Microsystem's official Java web site. It's chock full of useful articles about Java, tricks, tips and even a Java tutorial. Might as well learn at the feet of the master!

  • DevX ( www.devx.com ) - A site designed to connect programmers and have them assist each other. The site features a large code library, hot tips on software development, job leads and 30 newsletters.

  • Association of C and C++ Users ( www.accu.org ) - An organization dedicated to C++ and Java users. They provide seminars, book reviews and articles on these programming languages. There is a fee to join.

  • Visual Basic Explorer (www.vbexplorer.com ) - Geared for novice to intermediate level programmers, this site provides tutorials, code snippets, forums and news.

  • International Project Management Association (IPMA) ( www.ipma.ch ) - This non-profit organization provides project management resources for project managers around the world by holding seminars, developing certification standards and publishing the International Journal of Project Management.

  • PM Forum ( www.pmforum.org ) - The PM Forum attempts to facilitate the exchange of information among project managers. The site contains links to online resources and a well-stocked archive of articles.

The Mythical Man-Month, Fred P. Brooks, Addison Wesley, 1999, ISBN# 0-20-153595-9. One of the best books ever written about the management of large-scale projects. It does a solid job of pointing out how corporations make mistakes in overestimating the capacity of employees.

Project Management For Dummies, Stanley E. Portney, Hungry Minds, Inc., 2000, ISBN# 076455283X. Don't let the name offend you. The Dummies series is well written and geared towards novices, not dullards.

Microsoft Project 2000 For Dummies, Martin Doucette, Hungry Minds, Inc., 2000, ISBN# 0764505173. An inexpensive, yet powerful text for learning one of the most popular project management software packages.
