Turn large lecture halls into active learning environments: Using PRS, you get immediate feedback on student progress and 100% participation. Students are engaged in the learning process and have insight to how well they have mastered the material.
- You ask multiple-choice, numeric, true/false, and matching questions during each class.
- Each student “clicks” a button on their cell-phone-sized remote to immediately submit their answer.
- A classroom receiver (portable or mounted) connected to your computer receives and immediately tabulates all answers.
- Results are displayed on screen in histogram form for the class to see.
With just 5-10 questions per class, you can monitor lecture pace and attendance, reinforce course material, conduct Pre-test and Post-test sessions, or simply gather insight on the perceptions of your students. Class results can be used as a point of discussion or instantly graded and saved to a grade book.
Software:
The PRS software is easy to set up and easy to use. When you adopt PRS you are automatically site licensed for all computers in your institution as well as personal computers used for class preparation. In addition, PRS system maintains all its features in both its Windows and Mac versions.
Hardware:
You need an in-class computer (PC or Mac), projector, and a monitor screen large enough for the entire audience.
PRS receivers, brackets, and cables required for a classroom set up are available at no cost to qualified Pearson adopters. You may opt to install the hardware in the classroom for regular use or keep it portable for smaller courses. Student Transmitters:
PRS transmitters use infra-red technology and are simple for students to use. Each has a 10-digit keypad with two modifier buttons to indicate confidence level. The transmitter automatically shuts off after 15 minutes of inactivity and battery life with regular use is about a year (one set of AAA batteries is included with the purchase).
Each transmitter has a unique serial number that identifies the response of each individual student in class. You will need to order the PRS transmitters from your bookstore, as well as, a special textbook + rebate card package (ask your rep for ordering information). |
