QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT

1) Quality Function Deployment

Develop the House of Quality for a product (good or service) of your choosing.
  • Determine the Wants. Do this as you see fit, but library research or data developed in other course work (a marketing class) would also be appropriate, as would interviews with purchasers or prospective purchasers.
  • Determine the customer importance ratings as well.
  • Develop the Hows. Choose your product so that you have some expertise on your team that will allow you to develop realistic Hows.
  • Develop the roof of the House of Quality to show the relationship between your Hows. Provide a written narrative that describes these relationships.
  • Using the 9, 3, 1 weights, calculate the importance rating.
  • Determine how well at least two competing products met the requirements (see the Ideal Lunch example).
  • What does this analysis tell you about the task ahead for a company (your team/your company) to satisfy these customer needs?

2) A leading force in the development of Total Quality Management as an integral part of business has been Philip Crosby. Mr. Crosby has written seven books on the subject of quality and management's role in improving its products and services. Select any one of his books, read it, and prepare a two-page, typewritten, double-spaced analysis of what you found to be the most interesting and important points in that book.
