There is Room for the Commuter to Get Involved
- JUST DO IT! Find something that will help you connect with campus life.
- Find an organization that meets right after one of your classes, so you do not have to spend extra time coming back to campus for meetings.
- Find an activity that matches your academic or career interests.
- If you work, select an activity that will not conflict with your work schedule.
- Many campuses have specific organizations for off-campus students. If your campus has one, check it out!
- Form an intramural sports team with other students living in your apartment complex or neighborhood.
- If you are interested in volunteer work, select a service agency near your house or apartment.
- Check out any special services your campus provides off-campus students.
- Offer to host any small group meetings for your organization or study group at your place. Providing a place to meet can be a huge help to other students.
- Get involved in campus issues that directly affect you and other commuter students; e.g.: parking, affordable housing and shuttle buses.
